Braunschweig University of Art
The Braunschweig University of Art is the only art university in the state of Lower Saxony. We are a young university with an impressive tradition. Once, draftsmen were trained for professions in applied art in this location. The address of the university at the "Johannes-Selenka-Platz" (Johannes Selenka Square) commemorates the bookbinder and founder of the "Zeichnen-Instithuts" (Drawing Institute) (1842). Today, more than 40 years after its establishment, the Braunschweig University of Art, as the second largest institution after the Berlin University of the Arts (Universität der Künste Berlin), offers all the advantages of a university of arts and sciences. Visual arts, industrial design and communications design as well as art science and media sciences constitute the three core areas which form the current focus of the university. Interdisciplinarity and practical application are crucial to study and research in a societal context with regard to the later careers of artists, designers and art and media scholars.
